A Remarkable Season for the Lady Panthers

This year the Lady Panthers had a remarkable season. The team won 21 games which was the first time they have had a 20 plus win season since 2007/08 and Coach Kristen Anderson was named the Fourth Region Coach of the Year. Carly Jo Nettles joined the 1000 point club and the freshman girls’s team won the Sixteenth District Freshman Championship.
Eighth graders Madi Cooksey and Kenzie Willen were named to the Fourth Region All A Classic Team and Emma Craft was named to the All A Classic All Academic Team. Carly Jo Nettles, Abby Morgan, and Madi Cooksey were named to the Sixteenth District All District Team.
The Lady Panthers beat Ohio County in the school’s first ever quadruple overtime and the team finished fifth on the KHSAA Region 4 Win-Loss Record Board.
The team finished their season with 21-10 record. They had 9 wins and 7 losses in regional play and they were 5-5 in district play. The team shot 39% from the field, 33% from three point range, and 67% from the free throw line for the season. They grabbed a total of 963 rebounds.
Eighth grader Madi Cooksey was team’s leading scorer with a total of 335 points for the season and averaging 11.2 points per game. Abby Morgan scored 328 points and averaged 10.6 and Carly Jo Nettles was next with 318 points and averaging 10.3 points per game.
Kenzie Willen made 64 three pointers on the season and shot 40% from behind the arc. Madi Cooksey hit 20 and Nettles hit 14.
Cooksey led the team in free throw percentage shooting 76%. She hit 75 out of 99 free throws. Nettles was next with 73%. Graci Craft and Abby Morgan both shot around 68%.
Cooksey led her team in rebounds for the season pulling down 201 boards and averaging 6.7 per game. Nettles was second with 162, Willen had 159, Graci Craft had 152, and Abby Morgan 151.
The Lady Panthers had three seniors on the team this season. Carly Jo Nettles, Kendra Coe, and Emma Craft. These players will be missed next season.
