CCHS Baseball Starts Season 2-2

The Cumberland County Panthers, under head coach David Morgan, have started the season off 2-2. The Panthers started the season off with a win against Celina at home by a score of 6-1.

March 20, the Panthers traveled to Livingston and lost the game by a score of 9-3. Kurtis Lee was the losing pitcher. He struck out 2 and walked 3. He allowed 3 runs to score off of 4 hits on the mound. Zayne Murphy threw 77 pitches for the Panthers and struck out 4 and walked 3. He allowed 4 runs off 6 hits. Burk Sells struck out 2 and allowed 1 run and 1 hit and threw 16 pitches.

Lance Willen led the Panthers in hitting. He was 2/4 and had 1 RBI. Zayne Murphy, Eli Morgan, and Braden Perdue all had 1 hit each. Livingston Academy struck out 10 Panthers in the game.

The outcome wasn’t what the Panthers hoped for when Greenwood came to town. They lost the game 19-0.

The team only had 3 hits. JD Riley had 2 and Willen 1.

Burk Sells was the losing pitcher. He allowed 11 runs on 12 hits and walked 2 batters. Connor Cash came in for relief and he allowed 8 runs on 4 hits and walked 4.

The outcome was much better Saturday when the Panthers beat Caverna at home by a score of 16-1.

Braden Perdue got the win on the mound. He threw 49 pitches, struck out 5 and walked 2. He only allowed 1 run on 1 hit. Kurtis Lee closed the game with 11 pitches and struck out 2 batters and allowed 1 hit.

The Panthers had a total of 14 hits for the game. Lance Willen was perfect for the game going 3 for 3 with 4 RBI’s. Eli Morgan, Braden Perdue, Kurtis Lee, and Zayne Murphy all had two hits each and Dawson Duvall, Aiden Branham, and Derrick Sells all had 1 hit each. Lee had 5 RBI’s on his two hits while Duvall and D. Sells both had 2.

For the season, Lance Willen leads the Panthers with 7 hits. Eli Morgan and Zayne Murphy both have 4. Willen also leads the team in RBI’s with 7. Kurtis Lee has 6 and Derrick Sells 3.

Murphy leads the team in stolen bases with 5. Eli Morgan has 4 and Dawson Duvall 3.

For the season, Willen’s batting average is .538, Morgan’s is .444, and Murphy’s .364.

Murphy has struck out 14 batters on the season and Perdue 9. Murphy has thrown 139 pitches on the season.

In district news, Metcalfe County has yet to win a game and is 0-5 for the season. They have only had 6 hits for the season and Kruz Tucker has had 2 of those.

Clinton County is 3-2 so far under head coach Russell Baker. Tucker Casada leads the team in hitting with 7. Caleb Thrasher and Walker Casada both have 5. Thrasher also has two wins on the mound under his belt for the season.

Monroe County is 2-3 for the year. Travis Wood leads the team with 8 hits. Caleb Cook has two wins for the Falcons on the pitching mound.

The 2022 Regional Champion Russell County Lakes are 3-1 for the year. Adam Walters, Ayden McGowan, and Mayes Gosser leads the team with 4 hits each.

The Panthers will play Metcalfe County Wednesday night at home.
