Overcoming Challenges

Recovery coordinator Glen Murphy, standing to the rear, was proud of this month’s graduates, from the left Noah, Neal, Trey Wright and Charles Barry McCoy.
The much of the home stands in the Panther Gymnasium were nearly filled with family and friends, as well as past graduates, of the Cumberland County Drug Court Program last week.
They came to hear of the challenges, met and exceeded by those who graduated.
Each graduate walked to the podium and told the story of how they entered the program, resented the program, accepted the program and eventually became part of the program.
The tales were each very personal, but all centered around of the devastating effects of drugs in a person’s life, and a families existence.
Through the regimented 18-month program each was able to find a way to become clean and sober. They now re-enter society as productive members, re-entered their families as trustworthy mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and children, and gained a new sense of self through battling back the addiction which had so badly battered their lives.
After each spoke the hall filled with the cheers and applause of those attending.
Afterwards, they gathered for photographs to commemorate the moment and then moved on to a feast for them, their families, and the new family they gained through Drug Court.
