“I’m launching my re-election campaign on Thursday, June 25 — in Pewee Valley…” Russell Coleman, Kentucky Attorney General, sent out in an email this week, but he was here in Cumberland County last week first.
“We have never had in Kentucky history a Republican Attorney General serve for eight years, and it’s my intention, my calling, to do so, and let me tell you why,” Coleman said June 9.
His speech was kept short as promised, and it was made to a select group of Republicans from this and surrounding counties. The crowd leaned heavily towards serving and previous elected officials, especially those in the courts and law enforcement, but also included neighbors to Bodock Farms where the event was held.
He told them it was the children in Louisville sleeping under beds or in bathtubs to be safer from violence. He said it was the drugs that drive that violence and the overdose deaths that plague all of the state that spurs him on as a prosecutor.
“We have made progress — I celebrate every life saved,” he said. But he said there is much more in the way of enforcement and treatment that he wants to see done across Kentucky.
He remained afterwards to have photos taken with those in attendance, before departing, on a stormy Tuesday afternoon.
