Panthers 2 of 2 to start the season
Cumberland County Panthers basketball team took down Adair county 82–77 in the first game of the season then went on to beat Edmonson County 70–47, with both games being at home.
In the first game, it was all about motion and speed with Gavin Craft, a sophomore, leading the scoring with 23 points total. Zachary Harwood, a senior, was close behind with 14 points.
Harwood was 7 of 12 under the net while Craft was 3 of 3 under the net and 4 of 5 outside the three-point line.
Senior Byren Crawley sank 5 of his 7 shots which is 71.4% to Craft’s 87.5%. Overall, the team sank 56.4% of their shots attempted 50% of their outside shots and 52.4% of their free throws.
Harwood pull down the most rebounds with 14 for the game Crawley, Noah Wood, Devon Norris and Craft all pulled down 4 each. Rounding out the rebounding was Aiden Branham with 3, and one each to Burk Sells and Dawson Duvall.
In the Edmonton County game, Harwood was the big point maker with 23 overall. He was 3 of 4 on free throws and 10 of 12 under the net.
He was followed by Craft and Branham with 10 points each. Rounding out the scoring were Norris with 7, Crawley with 6, Dawson Duvall with 5, Wood with 4, Derek Sells with 3 and Burk Sells with 2 points.
Rebounding was Norris with 7 and Harwood with 6, followed by Craft at 5 and Branham 4, Wood and Crawley pulled in 3 each while Norris B. Sells and Duvall each pulled in one.
The team went to Russell County Tuesday night, which is after deadline for this weeks paper.
