One of his coworkers suggested that he had actually been working a lot longer than what his retirement would reflect.
A friend of the man said she knew it was a fact as the man had worked, helped his father, even as a child.
But the ties went further back, as the grandfather of Danny Lee had carried the mail over the same route that his son and then his grandson did.
Danny Lee retired late last week after 44 years of work at the Burkesville Post Office, officially.
When the youngest of the Lee’s took the job, he was carrying mail on the south Ky-61 route and the North Ky-61 route, as they hadn’t been separated back then, not enough addresses.
Lee works both as a carrier and in the post office. Jason said he was the voice of experience in the office, with so many decades of practical knowledge to draw upon.
Another coworker said, “he was our weatherman.” She said he would always let them know what his forecast for the day when they all came in.
Arlene Young wrote, “This week is bittersweet! Danny has been a great coworker and the best friend you could ask for! I hope retirement brings him much joy because he is deserving of the best!”
There was a cake, on his last day, and before that everyone had gone out after work for a dinner in his honor.
