The BMW Bikers Rally will be in town May 15-18, and out-going Board President Jay Cary said the city’s preparations are nearly complete.

He said organizers of the rally have been through the city to review the work and have generally indicated an appreciation for the work. Cary said some issues remain but are to be addressed soon.

More treasurer Amy Morgan reported the financing which were accepted, she also told the board they Welcome to Cumberland County sign on East Ky-90, near the Clinton County line, was damaged in a recent windstorm, and repairs are underway

Cary went over the procedures for budgeting and for paperwork necessary to receive State Matching Grants with the board.

Board Member John Kyle was voted in as the new chairman, as Cary’s term on the board has expired.

The board approved sending out an advisory letter to all transient occupancy businesses in the county. If necessary, those not properly remitting the required state taxes for those rooms will be sent a second letter from the County Attorney.

Cary reiterated that those taxes are what fund the activities of the Tourism Commission, which promotes tourism to the area from outside the state.
