Busy Library, Even with School Returning

Cumberland County Public Library Board Members looked over renderings of improvements in the children’s section of the library at last week’s board meeting. The new furniture is at no cost to the taxpayers, thanks to a private grant given to the library by The Steel-Reese Foundation, Norris explained.   PHOTO | Greg Wells

Library Director Ashley Norris said there has been a slight reduction in the number of visitors from July to August, while circulation was in line with 2024 figures, while uses of the Hoopla system for free online books were up.

She noted that Carolyn Smith joined the Library Board, filing Pam Davis’ expired term after confirmation by the Fiscal Court this month. She added that names to fill Eva Breedlove’s expired term were needed.

She told the board at last Thursday’s meeting that the Cumberland County Public Library will be participating in The Marrowbone Fall Festival Sept 27.

Norris added that they would also be at the Bluegrass Festival in conjunction with the Cumberland County Hospital’s Health Fair this Saturday.
