The Burkesville City Council passed the first reading on the following ordinances: one relating to Farm Animals; the other regarding Dog Control, Establishment of Codes Enforcement Board; Control and Abatement of Nuisances with regard to properties and buildings.

The Enforcement Board Ordinance lays out the duties of the members as well as punishments that may be assessed for violation of the Control and abatement of Nuisances. Those would be loud activities, storage of certain items and the condition of properties and buildings.

They also detail how enforcement actions may be assessed, and the recourse of property owners, as well as apeals and other matters.

The highest maximum fee set in the  several schedules of the ordinances is $1,000

No livestock or farm animals may be kept in the city except on properties zoned as agricultural.

Dogs are not to be allowed to roam the city, bark incessantly, chase vehicles as well as other controls such as banning them from causing damage or destroy property or chase people. Dogs violating the ordinance can be picked up by the City Dog Warden.

People are also required to pickup after their dogs in the city’s parks.

In the department reports Police Chief  Wesley Long said that last month his department responded to 245 calls for assistance, performed 17 traffic stops, issued 15 citations, responded to 10 colissions, made 9 arrests, handled 8 calls which were alcohol related, and helped 10 motorists who were locked out of their vehicles.

He also said all the officers have passed their weapons re-qualifications recently, and he is expecting the last new officer to pass the academy soon.

Fire Chief Greg Cary told the council his department responded to 5 injury accidents, 5 helicopter landings, 1 special detail and responded to one fire alarm.
