Ladies Up Two of Three Games to Start Season

Cumberland County’s Lady Panthers took Adair County 70–37, to start the season, Dec. 3, with the ladies taking an early lead and holding it well for the entire game.

Leading shooter from outside, the three-point line was Kenzie Willen who hit 5 of 7. The sophomore also dropped in 3 of 6 2-point attempts. Maddie Cooksey, also a sophomore, dropped in 7 of 11 two-point shots while pulling in 2 of 4, 3-point attempts. The two of them combined for 41 points of the teams 70.

That meant that Willen was 61.5% and Cooksey 60. Abby Morgan, a Junior, put up 40% with two out of five shots drained. Overall, the team shooting was 42.6%.

Jordan McDonald drew the most Fouls with eight free throws awarded she sank five giving her a 62.5% free-throw average.

Rebounding was a full team effort with everyone getting at least one while Willen pulled down seven and Cooksey matched that. Morgan pulled down five and Jordyn McDonald three, Aubree Alexander, Maci Bradshaw and Haley Webb each pulled down to while Keegan Walden, Lilee Dubre, Camden Cooksey and Lilly Schuenaman each pull down one.

The numbers weren’t quite as kind to the lady Panthers Dec. 5 when they visited Wayne County. The final score was 48-39 in the home team’s favor.

Team scoring and rebounding was down from the previous game across the board.

The lady Panthers pushed hard against Wayne County and shooting from the line was greatly improved, 88.2% overall. M. Cooksey sank 7 of 7, Morgan sank two of two as did Walden. Willen put in three of four, while McDonald hit one of two.

At home again, Dec. 7, against Edmonton County the Lady Panthers pulled in a 49-39 win, a full report of the action is not available right now.
