Panthers/Lady Panthers Continue Their Winning Ways
Cumberland County High School Panthers varsity went four-strait taking Monroe County last Friday after they had beaten Russell County December 10.
Meanwhile the lady Panthers picked up three more wins, for four so far, despite a setback against Wayne County and then another hard-fought loss this one against Barren County.
They went over Russell County was tight at 80–77, but the Monroe County game was even closer 57–56 with the two teams taking the lead from one another back-and-forth throughout the game.
Zachary Harwood led the scoring in that Monroe County game with 16 points total just ahead of Gavin Craft 15 points and not too far ahead of Noah Woods 13.
Rounding out the scoring were Deven Norris with 8, Byren Crawley with 4 and Burke Sells with one.
Harwood led rebounds with 11 taking to the air on both ends of the court to pull that ball down. Close behind him was Craft with 8 followed by Wood with 5, Norris with 4 and Sells with one.
The Lady Panthers took Edmonson County 49 to 49 Russell County 45–36 and then Monroe 53–42.
Statistics aren’t available yet for the most recent two games, but against Russell County Jordan McDonald was the leading scorer with 10 points but it was a three-way tie amongst Keegan Walden, Maddie Cooksey and Abby Morgan with each of the ladies putting up nine points. Kenzie Willen put up five and Aubrey Alexander rounded out the scoring with three points.
Morgan was hot on the boards pulling down 11 rebounds as Alexander got 8, and Cooksey 4. Two rebounds each were pulled by Willen, McDonald, and Walden.
The team’s aggression showed through and their rebounding and they’re shooting was generally above 50% with McDonald putting in 75% of the shot she attempted.
