Burkesville city Council met last Thursday to consider the interlocal agreement for Emergency 911 Dispatch services and establishment of the codes enforcement board, among other things.
Named as the members of that board were Greg Wyant, Mark New, and Junior Smith.
This board is to be tasked with interacting with property owners affected by the city’s ordinances regarding the condition of properties.
When it came to the interlocal agreement, mayor Laurel Irby said the following changes are in her proposal.
- Link-NCIC Board disbanded, as it is not legally required
- City/county to contribute $85,000 and $75,000 respectively to fund the service
- Hospital to be removed from the agreement
- Three board members to be added, Harry Graves who has served previously on the board, as well as the city’s police chief and county sheriff.
The council voted to table Irby’s proposals.
The mayor said she had discussed these issues with County Judge-Executive Luke King.
When contacted for comment, King said no such meeting had occurred, and he was unaware of some of these proposed changes.
Another agenda item, this approved by the board, was employee compensation during inclement weather. The municipal order codifies what happens when storms hit. If the mayor closes city operations due to inclement weather staff will be paid for a normal eight-hour workday. If a staffer decides the weather is too bad to come to work, they will have to use personal or vacation time to be paid for that absence.
The meeting was interrupted by an executive session called by Irby and approved by the council. After lengthy discussion they returned to open session, but no action was taken with regard to the “personnel matter,” reported as the cause of the closed session.
