Cumberland County Lady Panthers won their first game in the 16th district championship, against Monroe County 63–35. Unfortunately, they did not manage to beat Metcalfe County in the championship game.

Lady panthers just couldn’t get it over the top and fell 47–55, making them first runner-up in District 16.

That finish allowed them to move on to the 4th Region Championship, but a second-place finish at district pitted them against the first-place finisher in the neighboring district, Barron County.

Barron county took that game 52–39.

The news for the Cumberland County Panthers was not as good. The Panthers fell to the Russell County Lakers in overtime, 78–83, in their first game.

It was a hard-fault game, with the boys tying it up against the Lakers in the last seconds of regular play.

Both teams had been aggressive throughout, but the opposition hit more of their foul shots and had more steals in both the later portion of regular play and especially overtime.

Clinton County’s boys went on to sink the Lakers in the 16th District final, 79–57.

With those finishes Clinton and Russell County went on to region.

In the girl’s regional championship Franklin Simpson won 58–33 over South Warren, moving them into the semis against Barron County. Bowling Green beat Todd County 37–35 and Metcalfe County beat Warren East 45–40.

That means Bowling Green faced Metcalfe County in the other semifinal.

Those semifinal games were in Bowling Green March 4, but results were not available at press time.

In the boy’s region, Barron County faces Warren Central, Clinton County against Logan, Franklin Simpson is against Russell County and Bowling Green faces Glasgow.

Those games are March 10 and 11 in Bowling Green.

The girls’ regional championship is March 8 and March 19 is the date for the boys region, all games in Bowling Green.
