Long Retires from KSP

Master Trooper David Long walks from the helicopter after taking his last ride as a member of the Kentucky State Police.
Staff Report
Master Trooper David Long retired from duty July 31, 2025, having dedicated over three decades to law enforcement.
Long began his career as a Cumberland County Deputy Sheriff in 1990. After graduating from the Kentucky State Police Academy in 2003, Long served the state for over twenty years as a Master Trooper.
He spent the last six years of his service in the Aviation Division after completion of pilot training in 2017.
He said he’d take a little time to decide what he’d do next while he spent more time with loved ones.
In keeping with the tradition of KSP’s Aviation Division his last ride was as a passenger to the landing field near his home, after signing off from his last shift.
