Fall Festival Folks Soak up the Sunshine

Earl “Bandit” Conaster was playing to a crowd, estimated by some at 500, as a “train” full of young ones passed by at last week’s Marrowbone Fall Festival.

Leticia Cyphers, organizer of the Marrowbone Fall Festival, said things were going well as the entertainment was getting underway and people continued to arrive Saturday.

Cyphers praised all the work of volunteers in getting the event pulled together and making sure it was all ready and well organized before people started showing up.

She explained that they hold this and other events at the park to raise funds toward grants they intend to apply for to make improvements, such as possible pickle courts in the overgrown basketball court, and other improvements.

Philip Davidson, who brought his car to the Cruise-In, said “We’ve been blessed with a nice day for it,” referring to the festival.

Sitting with him in the pavilion was Jeff Adams, who said, “It is getting better every time, especially since it isn’t raining.”

Those men and the great crowd of attendees at the festival were all talking about the beautiful weather, not like last year’s cold and rainy afternoon.

Volunteers spent a lot of time grilling up meat beforehand, and for hours more during the festival. The line at the window to purchase the meals was never too long but was never empty.

Children were entertained with a petting zoo, bouncy house slide, and the free train that circled the event throughout.

Children enjoyed visiting with the animals in the petting zoo at the Marrowbone Fall Festival last Saturday.

Parents had a number of vendors there, and the cakewalk was participated in by folks of all ages.

The Cumberland County Public Library was on hand with their bookmobile and books for free to the children.
